One of the things that excites us most here at NWAS is taking on projects that are unlike anything we’ve done yet. As our vehicle wrapping abilities continue to expand, the public is taking notice and approaching with some pretty next level jobs for us. We’ve been meaning to step outside the realm of wheeled transportation wrapping for awhile now, and this Yamaha WaveRunner was the perfect opportunity!

As you can see, it started out as any standard issue WaveRunner does. Gloss black plastics, basic gloss white body, and sporting the always dated and painfully generic scalloped tribal-esque graphics. All of that had to go.

Blake started by pulling the registration numbers and tabs before moving on to the removal of the lower large format stickers, being sure to clean up any residue left behind with a bit of adhesive remover so that there wouldn’t be any contaminants trapped under the fresh vinyl.

Once all the old stickers had been removed, it was time for dis-assembly. Stripping the WaveRunner down took little time and the guys had the side plastics, dome plastic, and all the trim pulled pretty quickly. Taking apart a car for a full coverage vehicle wrap is definitely a bit more time consuming than the WaveRunner, but that wasn’t the tricky part. Most vehicles have a fair amount of large flat surface area in the hood, doors, and trunk; the jet ski however, was almost all curves and contours!

To keep the new aesthetic as seamless as possible, we applied the matte green in two large pieces that ran the length of the entire watercraft. Jeff cut and fit matte black filler pieces to emphasize the foot wells and further secure the film around the non-slip padding.

With the two sides pieced together and the matte black foot wells secure, Jeff moved on to the nose piece. Bringing the film to a point and matching the flow of the body lines over the newly matte black dome hatch had a very natural look, and tied the the wrap together well. Head on, the WaveRunner looks much more aggressive & sleek than it did with the previously bare bow and gloss black bubble top.

After all the big pieces had been placed, we set to work on the details. Jeff carefully cut out the DOT- regulation stickers to make them viewable again behind the fresh matte green.

We also cut out some custom matte black Yamaha graphics for the rear flanks of the WaveRunner, and Blake carefully installed them along with the registration coding.

As with most of our projects, we like to add a special touch of branding to make things just that much more original for our clientele. To offset the matte finishes, we went for a set of matching gloss green WaveRunner decals over the matte black nose piece, and custom cut an NWAS nautical badge for the top surface of the gauge cluster!

Once the wrap was completed, Ivan refit & attached all the bumpers and trim pieces around the WaveRunner so it would be ready to hit the waves.

We rolled the trailer outside so it would be ready for tow away, and Mike went ahead and gave the jet ski a final wipe down ensuring the new matte finish would look its best.
