In 1986, Pontiac released a version of the Grand Prix in order to meet NASCAR homologation rules at that time. This car was the Aerocoupe. All 1225 examples of this car came with a corporate 305 four barrel and 200-4R 4 speed automatic transmission. Also characteristic of the Aerocoupe was the new aero front fascia, fiberglass rear boot lid with built in spoiler, and bubbled rear glass. All of which were specifically designed to aid their NASCAR racing efforts. It was the famous racer Richard Petty who was the first one to suggest building a more aerodynamic version of the Grand Prix for racing. Ultimately, it was his company that completed the prototype in 1983. All models were painted the same two tone, silver and grey with additional stripping. Obviously, this vehicle is black so it has since received a new paint job somewhere along the line. We always love working on cars of historical significance so it was a pleasure to restore the finish of this vehicle. For the exterior, this vehicle received our Connoisseur Detail. As one of our most comprehensive packages it provides a full service hand car wash as well as a 3 stage polish with protectant which should last 4-6 months. It also received our Interior Detail Deluxe to refresh its interior.
As many old, black, cars are, this this Aerocoupe was in rough shape. Check out these wash scratches!
After we inspected the paint to inspect the damage, we began the 3 stage correction process.
While some of the guys were working on the exterior, others were completing the interior detail
Wax off! Not in the circular motion like they do in the movie though. We remove wax in straight line motions so as not to add attentional swirl marks into the paint.
Check out the results we were able to achieve on this vehicle. Here is a close up of the paint in direct light to show how few scratches are really in it.
And for some final after shots
