In 2008 Ferrari successfully won its 16th Formula 1 constructors championship. To celebrate this occasion, Ferrari built a special limited edition (499 units), spyder version of their already successful Scuderia. While many thought it was odd to build a spyder version of a car that was made to be a stripped down, light weight, track ready, edition of the standard Ferrari F430, the car was wildly successful. Last week we were lucky enough to have a beautiful black 16M in for some paint correction. The owner takes good care of her car but as it is black, it still needed some work to bring it back to the condition she wanted. Because this vehicle had been properly taken care of with regular hand washes from us, it only required our full detail. This one stage polish detail was perfect for cars such as this with only light wash scratches. Check out the process this Ferrari 16M went though below!
Before any paint correction can take place, all of the edges and plastic trim on the vehicle were covered with paint safe tape. This serves two purposes. The first is to protect the edges from getting hot spots that could lead to burn marks. The second is that it keeps the plastic protected from polishes that may leave stains.
Next it was time to inspect the paint. Here it was obvious that somebody had rested some sort of cup which scratched the paint.
After the paint was inspected and a polish/pad combination was chosen, it was time to start the correction process.
