2016 was quite the year for the ol’ Blue Oval. We witnessed the new GT in person at Barrett Jackson, got our hands on a couple of Focus RSs, and even spent some quality time with a few of Ford’s meanest Mustangs yet – the Shelby GT350. For those unfamiliar, the GT350 is a flat-plane-crank V8 powered beast of a car pushing up 500+ horsepower straight off the lot. It’s definitely not a fastback for the faint of heart.
GT350s have visited us for everything from custom graphics to XPEL PPF, New Car Details & protective coating packages. Most recently, a bold blue no-stripe version stopped in for some serious TLC in the form of our Signature Detail package. The Signature Detail offers a powerful 2-stage paint correction that’s proven to alleviate most scratches & swirls along with an intense cleaning regiment that will have your car’s cabin feeling like new again. On a Mustang, it typically takes us around a full 2 days to complete, but the end result is worth the wait!
The Shelby GT350 made the perfect candidate for a quick end-of-the-year photo shoot in the studio once the Signature Detail was finalized. Its deep blue paint polished up beautifully from the two stage correction, showing more color depth & clarity than ever before.
With the Shelby, Ford really went the extra mile to create a pony car that was built to perform. Its chunky cross-drilled Brembos are nestled tightly behind gloss black wheels, wrapped up in extra grippy Michelin rubber. Thanks to new magnetic suspension, the GT350’s factory ride height is functionally aggressive, leaving the car sitting just right.
If the equipment upgrades weren’t enough to tip you off, the GT350’s beefy front fenders ought to be a dead giveaway. To add to the aesthetic, it has a distinct widemouth grill, more stylized front bumper and lower splitter that subtly displays the Shelby moniker.
Regardless of personal performance preferences, there’s no denying that Ford has made a serious effort to level the playing field with its latest Shelby. Coming in just shy of a $50k base price is a bargain compared to other modern-muscle contenders in the segment like the Chevy Corvette Z51.
By the numbers, there’s less than 3,000 2016 GT350s rolling around world-wide. Depending on how production ramps up this year, a well-kept one could see a bit of appreciation on scarcity alone in the future. With that in mind, we highly recommend they consider the benefits of a Full Frontal XPEL ULTIMATE paint protection package for anyone planning on doing some serious seat time in their new Mustang. It’s hard to justify jeopardizing original paint & a beautifully corrected exterior without taking necessary precautions!
