As the temperature rises and flowers begin to bloom, it reminds us that spring is finally upon us. However we cant forget how harsh the winter really was on our vehicles. Between the constant rain, occasional snow and large amounts of salt on the roads, our vehicle’s finish didn’t have it easy these last couple of months. Like we mentioned before in our winter car preparation blog, the salt on the roads can be very hazardous to your vehicles finish. This is the first thing that needs to be dealt with. Because salt retains moisture, this moisture acts as a catalyst for oxidization and rust which needs to be dealt with sooner rather than later. If not quickly removed, this oxidation can leave permanent, irreversible damage to your vehicle. The salt on the exterior of your vehicle can be removed with one of our exterior detail packages. Any of these services will remove the built up salt and sodium chloride as well as provide a protective layer of sealant wax to protect it until its next detail.
The visible parts of your vehicle aren’t the only ones affected by salt though. The underside of the car takes the most extreme beating by the salt and gravel they use on the roads. Just like with paint, if left for too long the corrosive properties of the salt can cause the components under the car to wear prematurely. To stop this from happening, we offer our full undercarriage cleaning. For this we raise the vehicle up with a scissor lift so we can get full access to the underside as well as remove the wheels. Removing the wheels is necessary because it’s the only way to really get the inside of the barrels clean and protected from future abuse.
Have you ever noticed the white halo looking marks around the bottoms and heels of your shoes after being out on a wet winter day? These are actually deposits of salt that have unfortunately accumulated on, and probably ruined, your pair of shoes. Just because the inside of your vehicle is closed off to the elements, doesn’t mean they don’t make their way in though. Every time you get in and out of your vehicle, you most likely bring some amount of salt in with you. While the salt may not be as harmful to your carpets as it is to the paint, it can definitely leave those same stain marks if left untreated.
