Bentley Motors has come quite a long way since their coach building conception almost 100 years ago. Previously renowned for their rotary aircraft engines around WWI, it wasn’t until 1924 that Bentley actually made their road going debut powering a number of cars for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As of late they’ve managed to find a new home under Volkswagen AG, producing some of the most prestigious saloons and luxury sports coupes the world has ever known while simultaneously building up their brand recognition to a level that is equal to that of the automotive industry’s top coach builders.
In 2003 Bentley Motors introduced the Continental GT, improving off the Volkswagen Phaeton platform, equipped with a 6.0 liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine pushing up just over 550 hp and 480 ft·lb of torque. Hardly slouchy in the power spectrum, but basically essential for a car that weighs in at over 5,100 lbs to perform at it’s full potential.

Fast forward to 2009 and the arrival of a new breed of Continental. Now offered in an even more powerful, carbon fiber adorned and speed oriented spec, the Bentley Continental GT Supersports makes a refreshed debut with an optimized engine capable of running on both unleaded and E85 ethanol biofuel. With a few pounds shed & a bit of power gained, the Conti GT SS need some extra help in the stopping department, and thus employed carbon fiber-reinforced silicon carbide ceramic disc brakes strikingly similar to the ones found on a Bugatti Veyron. Impressive, to say the least.
As with any car that is as well constructed as the Bentley, we must take equal care in deconstructing it. And so began project “Exodus,” one of our most detail oriented vehicle wraps to date. As you may have noticed with the satin wrap we completed on one of The Twins, our full body vehicle wraps go the extra step when it comes to coverage.

Dis-assembly is not something to be taken lightly as no one ever wants to be a bolt short, but it is a bit of a daunting task when dealing with high value automobiles. Our highly trained technicians combed over every inch of the SS, carefully removing every bit of trim, filler and lining that we could, assuring that the Bentley’s new matte black finish would butt right up to nearly every seam and crack on the car, leaving almost no original paintwork to show through.
We had a bit of a deadline for the car since it was to be loaded up and shipped back down to California as soon as it was completed, so Jeff kicked it into high gear and set to work with heat gun in hand.

There’s a reason this project has been code named, and we weren’t even the brains behind the branding. Coined by the L.A. Raiders own Aaron Curry, “Exodus” finds its roots in the Greek word for “departure,” a fitting title for a car that pulled away from the Pacific North West and relocated in Raider Nation after a complete exterior transformation at our shop!

Once Jeff finished up wrapping the entire rear quarter panel and driver’s side door, things started to get tight. The trunk jam (along with both door jams) shows no signs of the original paint, with one uniform piece stretching clear across the entire top of the inset, seemed cleanly on either side. With most of the flat surfaces covered, there were only a few more tricky areas to attend to. Despite their curvacious edges, the door jambs posed little threat to our vehicle wrap installers, and the finish is flawless. To the untrained eye, it could easily be mistaken for optioned factory matte paint!

Matte and satin wrapped vehicles are always great subject matter for our cyclorama space as well. The light diffusion that happens over a matte or satin surface photographs beautifully, and the simple contrast between the gloss finish of the wheels & trim pieces with the new wrap ties the the package together with a subtle flair to create a dramatic full aesthetic.

We positioned the car in the photo booth and let the cameras do the rest. Showcasing a project like this is really just as exciting as it is to build and watch it it all come together.

The red leather interior and carbon fiber accoutrements are the perfect combo for a matte black exterior. The beautiful suede inserts & quilted accents add just enough class to the Supersport that you won’t forget you’re driving one of the most powerful luxury sports coupes the automotive world has ever known.

It was an intense process getting the Bentley covered with matte black in full, but well worth it. With the car all loaded up, it was time for Exodus to make it’s escape down to L.A. We shot a short video to further showcase this matte black vehicle wrap, check it out!
