Without a doubt, there’s something about a Porsche 911 that’s worth marveling over. Its signature shape has stood the test of time from generation to generation, and like a fine wine, Porsche’s flagship sports car only seems to get better with age. In a world of ever-changing design trends & stylistic fads, the seemingly everlasting Porsche 911 has seared its way into hearts and minds of people everywhere.
Recently, a beautiful black backdated long nose 911 arrived at our shop in need of some serious paint correction & a vinyl makeover to spice it up for the New Year. As with most black vehicles, we typically recommend a 3-stage paint correction that will re-level the clear coat to a near mirror like finish, removing deep scratches & swirls for a finish that’s better than new. This Porsche was no exception, and after completing our Connoisseur exterior detail, it looked better than ever.
If classic appeal is what you’re after, you can’t go wrong with hood latches & an RS bumper. This 911’s backdate styling mixes in a perfect combination of old school cool for a look that’s sought after by many a Porsche fan. With a professionally corrected paint job & a fresh coat of wax, what more could you ask for?
Personalization – that’s what. The 911’s gold wheel choice was a great place to start, but the client was ready to step it up a notch. To bring even more vintage appeal to the backdated P-car, we tracked down a gold metallic vinyl that was a perfect match and crafted a traditional set of Porsche side stripes designed as close to original specifications as possible.
The new vinyl stripe pack is a fantastic look for the Porsche & really compliments the car’s vintage styling cues. To the average passer-by, it could easily be mistaken for an icon from eras ago. It’s a great blend of old meets new with plenty of metallic gold to punch it up a notch.
To create the 911’s side graphics, we analyzed countless source images while scouring various Porsche forums & communities for original scale measurements of the stripe’s variations throughout the years. After mulling over everything, we finalized a design that was as true to form as possible, sizing them just right for installation.
The inside of the 911 is understated with all black leather sport seats, minimalist door cards, and bright red pull straps. Coupled with a three spoke Momo steering wheel & classic ball shift knob, it’s a perfect recipe for a great looking backdated Porsche 911 interior.
From behind, the ducktail compliments the car’s curvaceous body lines beautifully, drawing the eye down to the painted bumperettes & centered dual exit exhaust. The ride height on the 911 is dialed in nicely too — it’s low but not too low, with just enough wheel offset to fill out the fender wells.
There are a few subtle branding elements worked in around back which add to the Porsche’s character as well. Where one would normally find a Carrera or RS designation, there’s a simple “Outlaw” script emblem that blends in nicely below the ducktail. Just above it, an offset “Targa California” commemorative badge sits comfortably flush on the vented deck lid.
All in all, this long nose backdated Outlaw is a great example of how any pampered & lightly modified 911 can embody something truly special for Porsche enthusiasts of every variety. It has plenty of character, a perfect amount of flare, and enough oomph to excite with a twist of a key & the push of the accelerator.
