We were recently commissioned to produce a unique set of Grand Sport-inspired vinyl graphics for one lucky Chevy Corvette that carried over the look of the original race cars. As a new twist on an old school hit, the owner also decided to go with a monochromatic presentation & a hidden logo embossing underneath the signature fender hash marks.

In this iteration, one large center stripe runs almost the full length of the Corvette’s body. It’s encompassed by a thin pinstripe that tapers just ever so slightly down the nose of the Stingray before ending at the front lip.

Two large hash marks flank both sides of the center stripe, with the underlying “Corvette Grand Sport” logo text showing through on the driver’s side. Legend has it that the Grand Sport’s hash marks weren’t actually painted on the fender at all, but were just taped up along the front.

As the story goes, the hashes were originally implemented as a system to identify the cars as they came in to pit during a Bahama Speed Week race back in 1963. Later down the road, GM formally introduced the retro-styled fender stripes on a tribute edition Corvette in 1996, and it’s been a staple styling cue for Chevy enthusiasts ever since.

From the back, the Corvette’s new stripe pack squares off neatly across the deck lid, lining right up along the spoiler edge like a clean factory install. It might not boast the same original red & white Grand Sport color scheme, but it still goes to show how a simple vinyl addition can bring a classic look to a modern vehicle.
